Although somemultiroom installations will require theservices of a specially trained installer, itis possible for the average do it yourselfhobbyist to install a simple remote roomsystem. For additional information onusing the AVR80 in multiroominstallations we suggest that you contactyour dealer or custom installer.InstallationThe key to remote room operation is tolink the remote room to the AVR80’slocation with wire for an infrared receiverand speakers or an amplifier.IR LinkThe remote room IR receiver should beconnected to the AVR80 via standardcoaxial cable. Plug the IR connectioncable into the mini jack inside the Multiarea in the middle of the AVR80’s rearpanel.œIf other Harman Kardon compatiblesource equipment is part of the mainroom installation, the REMOTECONT. OUT jack on the rear panel ∑should be connected to IR IN jack on theCD player or cassette deck. This willenable the remote room location tocontrol source equipment functions aswell as the remote room input andvolume.NOTE: All remotely controlledcomponents must be linked together in adaisy chain. Connect the IR OUT jack ofone unit to the IR IN of the next toestablish this chain.Audio LinkDepending on the distance from the AVR80 to the remote room, two options areavailable. The preferred method is to run highquality, shielded audio interconnect cablefrom the AVR80’s location to the remoteroom. At the remote room, connect theinterconnect cable to a stereo poweramplifier. The amplifier will beconnected to the room’s speakers. Novolume control is required, as the AVR80and the remote IR link will provide thatfunction. At the AVR80, plug the audiointerconnect cable into the MULTI OUTjacks ® at the top left corner of the AVR80’s rear panel.NOTE: The remote power amplifier musthave signal sensing capability or be lefton constantly to assure automaticoperation at the remote room.As an alternative, the amplifier may beplaced at the same location as the AVR80,with a standard audio interconnectbetween the two. Speaker wires shouldthen be run to the remote room. Highquality AWG-12 speaker wire is preferred.IMPORTANT NOTE: Any cables runinside walls should carry safetycertification that is required by the localbuilding and electrical codes.
