Chapter 8. TroubleshootingUse this information to diagnose and fix any problems that might occur in your compute node.Introduction to problem solvingThis problem determination and service information helps you solve problems that might occur in yourIBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis compute node. The information describes the diagnostic tools thatcome with the compute node, error codes and suggested actions, and instructions for replacing failingcomponents.Replaceable components are of three types:v Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBMinstalls a tier 1 CRU at your request, you are charged for the installation.v Tier 2 customer replaceable unit: You can install a tier 2 CRU yourself or request IBM to install it, atno additional charge, under the type of warranty service that is designated for your compute node.v Field replaceable unit (FRU): FRUs must be installed only by trained service technicians. The model number and serial number for the compute node are on the ID label on the bezel on the frontof the compute node, and on a label on the bottom of the compute node that is visible when the computenode is not in the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. For information about the terms of the warranty and getting service and assistance, see the informationcenter or the Warranty and Support Information document on the IBM Flex System Enterprise ChassisDocumentation CD.Solving problemsUse the diagnostic tools that are available to help you solve some common problems that might occurwhile you are setting up the compute node.About this taskIf you install the compute node in the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis and the compute node doesnot start, perform the following actions:v Make sure that the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis is correctly connected to a power source.v Reseat the compute node in the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis, as described in “Installing thecompute node in an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis” on page 93.v If the power-on LED is flashing slowly, turn on the compute node, as described in “Turning on thecompute node” on page 12.v If you have just added a new optional device or component, make sure that it is correctly installed andcompatible with the compute node and its components. If the device or component is not compatible, remove it from the compute node, reinstall the compute node in the IBM Flex System EnterpriseChassis, and then restart the compute node.If the compute node does not start after you have performed the preceding actions, see the onlineinformation or the Problem Determination and Service Guide on the IBM Flex System Enterprise ChassisDocumentation CD.© Copyright IBM Corp. 2012, 2015 105
