Isolating firmware problemsYou can use this procedure to isolate firmware problems.About this taskTo isolate a firmware problem, follow the procedure until the problem is solved.Procedure1. If the compute node is operating, shut down the operating system. Use the CMM to perform a virtualreseat. If the problem no longer occurs, no further action is necessary. You are finished with thisprocedure.2. Start the PERM image. See “Starting the PERM image” on page 494.3. Verify the system firmware levels. See “Verifying the system firmware levels” on page 24.4. Choose one of the following options:v Remain on the current firmware level. See “Recovering the TEMP image from the PERM image” onpage 495.v Check the RETAIN tips and code change history. If a firmware update is needed, see “Updating thefirmware” on page 22.5. If the problem is not resolved, contact your next level of support.Save vfchost map dataBefore you replace physical components on your compute node, it might be necessary to first save theoriginal virtual Fibre Channel vfchost data of your compute node.ProcedureTo save the original vfchost data and the original physical Fibre Channel adapter port (fcs) location codes, complete the following steps by using the padmin user account:1. To save the original vfchost data, use the lsmap command as follows. Enter the command from thecommand-line interface on the source Virtual I/O Server (VIOS):lsmap -all -npiv | tee lsmap_OUTPUT_beforeThe output might look like the following example:Name Physloc ClntID ClntName ClntOS--------------- ---------------------------------------- ------- ---------- ------vfchost1 U7895.42X.9999999-V1-C32 3Status NOT_LOGGED_INFC name fcs1 FC loc code:U78AF.001.startSN-P1-C35-L1-T2Ports logged in 0Flags 4VFC client name VFC client DRCName Physloc ClntID ClntName ClntOS--------------- ---------------------------------------- ------- ---------- ------vfchost2 U7895.42X.9999999-V1-C33 4 cli_lpar_1 AIXStatus LOGGED_INFC name fcs0 FC loc code:U78AF.001.startSN-P1-C35-L1-T1Ports logged in 1Flags aVFC client name fcs1 VFC client DRC:U9999.999.9999999-V4-C32-T1In this example, the original serial number is represented as startSN.492 Power Systems: IBM Flex System p260 and p460 Compute Nodes Installation and Service Guide
