v Query power-supply input power.v ROM-based IMM firmware flash updates.v Serial over LAN (SOL).v Serial port redirection over telnet or ssh.v SMI handlingv System event log (SEL).The IMM also provides the following remote server management capabilitiesthrough the OSA SMBridge management utility program:v Command-line interface (IPMI Shell)The command-line interface provides direct access to server managementfunctions through the IPMI 2.0 protocol. Use the command-line interface to issuecommands to control the server power, view system information, and identifythe server. You can also save one or more commands as a text file and run thefile as a script.v Serial over LANEstablish a Serial over LAN (SOL) connection to manage servers from a remotelocation. You can remotely view and change the UEFI settings, restart the server, identify the server, and perform other management functions. Any standardTelnet client application can access the SOL connection. For more information about IMM, see the Integrated Management Module User'sGuide at http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5079770&brandind=5000008.Using the embedded hypervisorThe VMware ESXi embedded hypervisor software is available on the optional IBMUSB flash device with embedded hypervisor. The USB flash device can be installedin the USB connector on the low-profile (see the following illustration), SAS/SATAriser card in PCI riser slot 2 on the system board. Hypervisor is virtualizationsoftware that enables multiple operating systems to run on a host system at thesame time. The USB flash device is required to activate the hypervisor functions.Note: When you add an optional MAX5 to your server configuration and you planto use the optional USB flash device with VMware ESXi embedded hypervisorsoftware, see the documentation that comes with the USB flash device and theoperating system installation instructions for installing VMware ESXi (or ESX,depending on your environment) on your server at the IBM website athttp://www.ibm.com/systems/support/. The documentation provides additionalinstallation and configuration information that you need to follow before you usethe MAX5.Chapter 3. Configuring the server 143
