Installing an optional IBM ServeRAID B5015 SSD ControllerPort 1 Port 0 ServeRAID B5015You can purchase an optional IBM ServeRAID B5015 solid state drive (SSD)SAS/SATA controller. This adapter can be installed only in the PCI slots listed inTable 11 on page 71. For configuration information, see the ServeRAIDdocumentation at http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.Attention: Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated codeupdates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level ofcode is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.Note:1. Follow the general rule for connecting the SAS signal cables to the adapter anddrive backplane, port 0 on the adapter to port 0 on the drive backplane; thenport 1 on the adapter to port 1 on the drive backplane, port 2 to port 2, andport 3 to port 3 (depending on the drive backplane you install in the server).2. This adapter can only be used with the 8x1.8-inch drive backplane.3. You can only use 1.8-inch hot-swap drives with this adapter.To install the IBM ServeRAID B5015 SSD adapter, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page “Safety” on page v and“Installation guidelines” on page 44.2. Turn off the server (see “Turning off the server” on page 24) and all attachedperipheral devices. Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all externalcables from the server.3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the server top cover” on page 46).4. Carefully grasp the riser-card assembly by the blue touch points and pull it upuntil the riser-card assembly disengages from the connector on the systemboard; then set it aside.5. Touch the static-protective package that contains the ServeRAID B5015 SSDadapter to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server; then, grasp theadapter by the top edge or upper corners of the adapter and remove it fromthe package.6. Align the ServeRAID B5015 SSD adapter so that the keys align correctly withthe connector on the riser-card assembly.7. Insert the adapter into the connector on the riser-card until it is firmly seated.Attention: Incomplete insertion might cause damage to the server or theadapter.8.
