Itcannot be installed in drive backplane bays 2 and 3. It is not supported.v The right-angle SAS cables that come with the backplane only connect to theSAS signal connectors on the system board.To install the 8x2.5-inch hot-swap drive backplane, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page “Safety” on page vii and“Installation guidelines” on page 33.2. Turn off the server (see “Turning off the server” on page 21) and all attachedperipheral devices. Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all externalcables from the server.3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the server top cover” on page 36).4. Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Removing the fan cage assembly” onpage 40).5. Remove the microprocessor and memory expansion tray (see “Removing themicroprocessor and memory expansion tray assembly” on page 278) or DIMMair baffle (see “Removing the DIMM air baffle” on page 210), whichever one isinstalled.6. Open the SAS cable guide cover.7. If a backplane filler panels are installed in the backplane bay in which you areinstalling the backplane, remove the backplane filler panels.8. Connect the two 10x2-pin power connectors on the combinationpower/configuration cable to the backplane power connectors on the systemboard. The power connector on the end of the black cable (which might belabelled 1/3) connects to backplane connector 1 or 3 on the system board. Thepower connector on the end of the gray cable (which might be labelled 2/4)connects to backplane connector 2 or 4 on the system board.
