Installing the IBM 6Gb Performance Optimized Host BusAdapter6 Gb Performance OptimizedHost Bus AdapterPort 1 Port 0You can purchase an optional IBM 6 Gb Performance Optimized Host Bus Adapter. This solid-state drive controller provides no RAID support; however, it helps toprovide optimized performance for applications that do not need RAID support. This adapter can be installed in the PCIe slots listed in “Supported adapters” onpage 68. For configuration information, see the documentation that comes with theadapter.Attention: Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated codeupdates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level ofcode is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.Note:v For additional information and notes about installing the adapters “Installing anadapter” on page 66.v Follow the general rule for connecting the SAS signal cables to the adapter anddrive backplane: port 0 on the adapter to port 0 on the drive backplane and port1 on the adapter to port 1 on the drive backplane (depending on the type ofdrive backplane you install in the server). To install the adapter, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page “Safety” on page vii and“Installation guidelines” on page 33.2. Turn off the server (see “Turning off the server” on page 21) and all attachedperipheral devices. Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all externalcables from the server.3. Remove the top cover (see “Removing the server top cover” on page 36).4. Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Removing the fan cage assembly” on page40).5. Remove the microprocessor and memory expansion tray (see “Removing themicroprocessor and memory expansion tray assembly” on page 278) or DIMMair baffle (see “Removing the DIMM air baffle” on page 210), whichever one isinstalled.6. Touch the static-protective package that contains the adapter to any unpaintedsurface on the outside of the server; then, grasp the adapter by the top edge orupper corners of the adapter and remove it from the package.Chapter 2.
