Chapter 3. Configuring the serverThe following configuration programs come with the server:v Configuration/Setup Utility programThe Configuration/Setup Utility program is part of the basic input/output system(BIOS). Use it to change interrupt request (IRQ) settings, change thestartup-device sequence, set the date and time, and set passwords. Forinformation about using this program, see “Using the Configuration/Setup Utilityprogram” on page 42.Note: In a multi-node configuration, some choices or settings are definedthrough the primary server, and others must be defined on the individual(secondary) servers. Before you create a scalable partition, make surethat choices and settings on the secondary servers are correctv IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDThe ServerGuide program provides software-setup tools and installation toolsthat are designed for the server. Use this CD during the installation of the serverto configure basic hardware features, such as an integrated SAS controller withRAID capabilities, and to simplify the installation of your operating system. Forinformation about using this CD, see “Using the ServerGuide Setup andInstallation CD” on page 49.v Baseboard management controller utility programsUse these programs to configure the baseboard management controller, toupdate the firmware and sensor data record/field replaceable unit (SDR/FRU)data, and to remotely manage a network. For information about using theseprograms, see “Using the baseboard management controller” on page 53.v Boot Menu programThe Boot Menu program is part of the BIOS. Use it to override the startupsequence that is set in the Configuration/Setup Utility program and temporarilyassign a device to be first in the startup sequence.v Ethernet controller configurationFor information about configuring the Ethernet controller, see “Configuring theBroadcom Gigabit Ethernet controller” on page 66.v IBM DirectorIBM Director is a workgroup-hardware-management tool that you can use tocentrally manage System x servers. If you plan to use IBM Director to managethe server, you must check for the latest applicable IBM Director update andinterim fixes. for information about updating IBM Director, see “Updating IBMDirector” on page 67. For more information about IBM Director, see the IBMDirector documentation on the IBM Director CD that comes with the server.v LSI Logic Configuration Utility programUse the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to configure devices that areattached to the SAS/SATA controller. For information about using this program, see "Using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program" on page 43.Important: If the server is a simple-swap SATA model and you have installed anoptional SATA RAID Kit, you can use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility programto configure the simple-swap SATA hard disk drives.© Copyright IBM Corp. 2008 41
