5. Remove the DIMM air baffle (see “Removing the DIMM air baffle” on page50).Attention: To avoid breaking the retaining clips or damaging the DIMMconnectors, open and close the clips gently.6. Open the retaining clip on each end of the DIMM connector.7. Touch the static-protective package that contains the DIMM to any unpaintedmetal surface on the server. Then, remove the DIMM from the package.8. Turn the DIMM so that the DIMM keys align correctly with the connector.9. Insert the DIMM into the connector by aligning the edges of the DIMM withthe slots at the ends of the DIMM connector. Firmly press the DIMM straightdown into the connector by applying pressure on both ends of the DIMMsimultaneously. The retaining clips snap into the locked position when theDIMM is firmly seated in the connector.Important: If there is a gap between the DIMM and the retaining clips, theDIMM has not been correctly inserted; open the retaining clips, remove theDIMM, and then reinsert it.10. Install the DIMM air baffle (see “Installing the DIMM air baffle” on page 51).11. Install PCI riser-card assembly 2, if you removed it (see “Installing a PCIriser-card assembly” on page 47).ResultsIf you have other devices to install or remove, do so now. Otherwise, go to“Completing the installation” on page 154. Go to the Setup utility and make sureall the installed DIMMs are present and enabled.Installing a hot-swap ac power supplyAbout this taskThe following notes describe the type of ac power supply that the server supportsand other information that you must consider when you install a power supply:v Make sure that the devices that you are installing are supported. For a list ofsupported optional devices for the server, see http://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/.v Before you install an additional power supply or replace a power supply withone of a different wattage, you may use the IBM Power Configurator utility todetermine current system power consumption. For more information and todownload the utility, go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/bladecenter/resources/powerconfig.html.v The server comes with one hot-swap 12-volt output power supply that connectsto power supply bay 1. The input voltage is 110 V ac or 220 V ac auto-sensing.v You cannot mix 460-watt and 675-watt power supplies, high-efficiency andnon-high-efficiency power supplies, or ac and dc power supplies in the server.v The following information applies when you install 460-watt power supplies inthe server:– A warning message is generated if the total power consumption exceeds 400watts and the server only has one operational 460-watt power supply. In thiscase, the server can still operate under normal condition. Before you installadditional components in the server, you must install an additional powersupplyChapter 2.
