9 D-STAR OPERATION 9-16■ Speech functionThe speech function announces the called station callsign, or the individual or station call sign that is selectedfrom the RX History by holding down and rotating[DIAL].It is convenient when you cannot watch the LCD, or youmissed the call’s audio.This function helps you to know the call sign of the call-er station without looking at the LCD.D Announcing the received call signThe received call sign can be announced.q Push [MENU] .w Push D-pad() to select the root item (“SPEECH”),and then push D-pad(Ent).D-pad()(Ent)e Push D-pad() to select “RX Call Sign SPEECH,”and then push D-pad(Ent).r Push D-pad() to select “ON (Kerchunk)” or “ON(All).”• ON (Kerchunk): When a DV call is received, and if thecall time is short, the calling station’s callsign is announced. (Default)• ON (All): When a DV call is received, the callingstation’s call sign is announced.t Push [MENU] to save, and exit the MENUscreen.• When a DV call is received, the standby beep sounds,and after approximately 1 second, the call sign is an-nounced.• The transceiver has other Speech functions:[DIAL] speech functionThe frequency or repeater call sign is announced 1second after [DIAL] selection.(MENU > SPEECH > DIAL SPEECH)Mode speech functionThe selected operating mode is announced when[MODE] is pushed.(MENU > SPEECH > MODE SPEECH)• When the digital squelch function is used, and if areceived signal is not addressed to your call sign,or does not include an unmatched digital code, thecalling station’s call sign is not announced.‘JM1ZLK’‘JM1ZLK’‘Are you listening?’• When “ON (Kerchunk)” is selected• When “ON (All)” is selectedNOTE:• Even if a “/” and a note are after a call sign, they arenot announced.• The announced contents cannot be recorded on themicroSD card.
