NSQ412 Four-Line Caller ID Telephone Owner’s Manual 32If you have only Caller ID service, youwill not receive or display Call WaitingCaller ID information.Setting Up the Caller ID OperationDifferent telephone companies offer dif-ferent dialing plans, which may or maynot require the user to dial a “1” whendialing toll calls. Some areas require 7-digit dialing for local calls while otherareas require 10-digits.The NSQ412 can be programmed towork in all of these areas. Each stationprovides one programmable home areacode and five programmable local areacodes. These programmable area codeswill determine how a Caller ID number isdisplayed, stored and dialed. When thecalling number originates from the areacode that matches the one programmedinto the Home Area Code, the LCD willdisplay and dial only the local, 7-digitcalling number. For example:When the calling number originates fromthe area code that matches one pro-grammed into a Local Area Code, theLCD will display and dial the regional,10-digit number (area code + local 7-digitnumber). For example:When the calling number does not origi-nate from any of the programmed areacodes, the LCD will display the actualnumber when the calling number is lessthan 10-digits long. For example:See the section Area CodeProgramming to set up the station forproper Caller ID display.Receiving Caller IDWhen received during ringing, the CallerID info will appear in the display. Forexample, the LCD will display:"12/26 12:08P" The current time."L2" The CO Line whichreceived the call.“JOHN SMITH” The caller’s name.“5552222” The caller’s phonenumber.The display will return to its previous dis-play under the following conditions:a. In 4 - 6 seconds after ringingstops from the caller hanging up.b. The call is answered by anothersystem phone.c. The phone that answers the callends the call.When ringing occurs on two or morelines at the same time, the display willshow the latest Caller ID informationreceived. For example, L3 begins to ring,followed by L1 and then L2. As the CallerID data is received on each line, it is dis-played until the next one is received.
