Chapter 2General DescriptionThis chapter provides information that you should be familiar with before using the server. Itincludes names and functions of the components and features of the server.OVERVIEWYour server is a modular, multiprocessing server based on the Intel Xeon microprocessor. It isa solid performer and offers the latest technology. The combination of compute performance, memory capacity, and integrated I/O provides a high performance environment for many servermarket applications. These range from large corporations supporting remote offices to smallcompanies looking to obtain basic connectivity capability such as file and print services, e-mail,web access, web site server, etc.Your server is housed and available as a rack-mount system. Your server conveniently installs intoa standard EIA 19-inch rack assembly.Your server includes a 3.5-inch diskette drive, a CD-ROM drive, six hot-swap SCSI hard disk drivebays, and a removable media device bay. The hot-swap SCSI hard disk drive bays support up tosix 1.0-inch SCSI hard disk drives that can be swapped in or out of the system without powering itdown, if RAID functionality is configured in the system. The removable media drive bay may be used for installation of a high-speed tape drive. As application requirements increase, you can expand your server with an additional processor, additional memory, add-in boards and peripheral devices: tape devices, CD-ROM, and hard diskdrives.
