Setting Up Your Server 3-21The POWER LED on the front of the server comes on.In a few seconds, the NEC logo appears on the screen and the Power On Self-Test (POST)begins.The POST runs automatically when you power on the server or reset it with a keyboardoperation (Ctrl + Alt + Delete). The POST runs diagnostics, initializes the server, setsinterrupt vectors, detects installed peripheral devices, and boots the operating system (ifinstalled). See Chapter 2 for detailed description on POST.If the server halts before completing the POST, the POST emits a beep code indicating afatal system error requiring immediate attention. (See Chapter 8, "Troubleshooting," fortroubleshooting information.)During memory test, the POST displays the amount of memory it was able to access andtest. Depending on the amount of installed memory, it may take several minutes tocomplete the memory test.NOTE: The factory-set is defined to hide the POST screen with theNEC logo screen. You can always change the NEC logo screen to thePOST screen by pressing Esc. To change the start-up screen, use theBIOS setup utility, "SETUP." (See Chapter 4 for details.)During the POST, you will see the banner message to prompt you to launch the BIOS SETUP utilitystored in ROM on system board or on an installed option board.Start the BIOS SETUP utility appropriate to your system environment to change the BIOS setup.For the BIOS SETUP for the server, see Chapter 4.
