1-16 System OverviewSystem SecurityTo help prevent unauthorized entry or use of the system, the system includes a fulllockable front panel and Server Management software that monitors the systemintrusion switch.Security with Mechanical Locks and MonitoringThe front panel of the tower-based system contains a mechanical lock to prevent accessto the front of the computer chassis. In addition, each side cover contains a padlockloop (padlock not provided) located on the rear of the chassis to prevent removal of theside covers and access to the inside of the computer chassisThe computer chassis includes an intrusion switch for the left side cover, the front coverkeylock, and an interlock switch for the right-side cover (as viewed from the front). When the front cover is unlocked, the switch transmits an alarm signal to the systemboard, where BMC firmware and server management software processes the signal. Theleft side cover when open transmits an alarm signal to the SAF-TE board, whichprocesses the signal so that the ESMPRO Management software may set an alarm. Theright side cover activates an interlock switch controlling power shut down to the systemfor safety reasons.Software LocksThe BIOS Setup Utility and the System Setup Utility (SSU) provide a number ofsecurity features to prevent unauthorized or accidental access to the system. Once thesecurity measures are enabled, access to the system is allowed only after the user entersthe correct password(s). For example: Enable the keyboard lockout timer so that the server requires a password toreactivate the keyboard and mouse after a specified time-out period1 to 120minutes. Set and enable an administrative password. Set and enable a user password Set secure mode to prevent keyboard or mouse input and to prevent use of thefront panel reset and power switches. Activate a hot-key combination to enter secure mode quickly. Disable writing to the diskette drive when secure mode is set. Disable access to the boot sector of the operating system hard disk drive.
