31Step 4 Focus and ShootThe Basics of Shooting and PlaybackFocus and ExposureWhen the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the camera sets the focus andexposure (combination of shutter speed and aperture value). The focus andexposure remain locked while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.• When the digital zoom is in effect, the camera focuses on the subject at thecenter of the frame, and the focus area is not displayed. When the subject is infocus, the focus indicator lights in green.• The camera may not able to focus on certain subjects. See “Autofocus” (A86)for more information.• In auto mode, the camera automatically selects theareas containing the subject closest to the camera outof 9 focus areas.
