50A, B, C, D Modes (Setting the Exposure for Shooting)Shooting FeaturesA (Programmed auto)Use for automatic control of the exposure by the camera.• Different combinations of shutter speed and aperturevalue can be selected without changing the exposureby rotating the main command dial (“flexibleprogram”). While flexible program is in effect, a flexibleprogram mark (A) is displayed next to the modeindicator (A) in the upper left of the monitor screen.• To cancel flexible program, rotate the main command dial until the flexibleprogram mark (A) is no longer displayed, or press the g (AE-L/AF-L) buttonwhile pressing the w1 button. Selecting another shooting mode, or turningoff the camera, also cancels flexible program.B (Shutter-priority auto)Use to shoot fast moving subjects with a fast shutterspeed, or use to emphasize the movements of a movingsubject with a slow shutter speed.• The shutter speed can be adjusted by rotating themain command dial.C (Aperture-priority auto)Use to bring subjects including both the foregroundand background into focus or blur the subject'sbackground intentionally.• The aperture value can be adjusted by rotating thesub-command dial.D (Manual)Use to control the exposure according to shootingrequirements.• When adjusting the aperture value or shutter speed,the degree of deviation from the exposure valuemeasured by the camera is displayed in the exposureindicator of the monitor screen.
