Getting help through a Nortel distributor or reseller 63Net Direct Client The Net Direct client is an SSL VPNclient that can be downloaded fromthe Portal for each user session. Asopposed to the LSP and TDI versionsof the SSL VPN client, the Net Directclient does not have a user interface.Another difference is that the NetDirect client is packet-based, while theSSL VPN clients uses system calls.The packet-based solution supportsmore applications (e.g. MicrosoftOutlook).Nslookup A utility used to find the IP address orhost name of a machine on a network.To use the nslookup command onthe VPN Gateway, it must have beenconfigured to use a DNS server.NTP (Network Time Protocol) A protocol used to synchronize thereal-time clock in a computer. Thereare numerous primary and secondaryservers on the Internet that aresynchronized to the CoordinatedUniversal Time (UTC) through radio,satellite, or modem.NVG Nortel VPN Gateway.Passphrase Passphrases differ from passwordsonly in length. Passwords are usuallyshort, from six to ten characters.Short passwords may be adequatefor logging onto computer systemsthat are programmed to detect a largenumber of incorrect guesses, but theyare not safe for use with encryptionsystems. Passphrases are usuallymuch longer—up to 100 charactersor more. Their greater length makespassphrases more secure.PEM (Privacy Enhanced Mail) A standard for secure e-mail on theInternet. It supports encryption, digitalsignatures, and digital certificates aswell as both private and public keymethods.
