32 Recording and Playback PRE-RECORDING functionThe internal memory of your unit is capable of storingseveral seconds of video and sound data coming from thecamera. This capability can be used to record video andsound several seconds before either the REC START/STOP button, REC button on the handle or VTR button atthe lens is pressed to start recording.To use this function, the menu option PRE REC MODEmust be set to “ON”. The storage duration of the internalmemory can be set from the menu option PRE REC TIME.PRE REC MODE and PRE REC TIME menu options canbe found in the REC FUNCTION screen on the SYSTEMSETTING page.The function of the menu option PRE REC MODE may beassigned to a desired user button by using any one of themenu options USER MAIN SW, USER1 SW, or USER2SW.These options can be found in the USER SW screen,which is accessible from the CAM OPERATION page.These are the options for PRE REC TIME.1-15 SEC (for DVCPRO 25M or DV)1-8 SEC (for DVCPRO HD or 50M):Specify the duration for which data may be recordedbefore either the REC START/STOP button, RECbutton on the handle or VTR button at the lens ispressed.Notesz “P-REC” indication when the “PRE REC MODE” menuoption is set to OFFAfter recording is stopped, the “P-REC” indicationremains displayed until all video and sound are recordedon the P2 card, even if the PRE REC MODE menuoption is set to OFF. For details of the [P-REC] display,refer to [30.PRE RECORDING indication/ SD memorycard remaining free space (when MODE CHECK isbeing performed)] in [Viewfinder Screen StatusDisplays].z Immediately after the power is turned on, the menuoption PRE REC TIME is selected and/or the storageduration is changed, the content in internal memory willbe undefined. In these situations, the video or sound willnot be recorded for the duration specified, even if eitherthe REC START/STOP button, REC button on thehandle or VTR button at the lens is pressed to startrecording.z A P2 card that has been just inserted takes some time torecognise.
