L The other party’s fax machine is busy or has run out of recordingpaper. Try again.L The other party’s machine is not a fax machine. Check with theother party.L The other party’s fax machine failed to answer the faxautomatically. Send the fax manually (page 54).L The other line is sending/receiving faxes, or the other line’sanswering machine is in use.L The memory is full of received documents and the quick scan(feature #34 on page 81) is ON. Turn this feature OFF, and sendthe fax again.I cannot send a faxoverseas.L Use the overseas transmission mode (feature #23 on page 80).L Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number or dialmanually.The other party complainsthat letters on theirreceived document aredistorted or not clear.L If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, theservice may have been activated during fax transmission. Connectthe unit to a line that does not have these services.L An extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang upthe extension telephone and try again.L Try copying the document with this unit. If the copied image is clear,there may be something wrong with the other party’s machine.The other party complainsthat black lines, whitelines or smudges appearon their receiveddocument.L The scanner glass or rollers are dirty with correction fluid, etc.Clean them (page 110). Please do not insert a document beforecorrection fluid has dried completely.Problem Cause & SolutionI cannot receivedocuments.L You may have subscribed to a voice mail service due to servicepacks offered by your telephone company. Fax and voice messagereception may not be possible when voice mail is activated so werecommend you to:– contact your telephone company and request to deactivatevoice mail service, or– subscribe to a Distinctive Ring service (page 63).L The ink film is empty. Replace the ink film with a new one (page16).I cannot receivedocuments automatically.L The receiving mode is set to TEL mode or TAM ONLY mode.Change the receiving mode to TAM/FAX mode (page 59) or FAXONLY mode (page 60).L The time taken to answer the call is too long. Decrease the numberof rings:– TAM ring count: feature #06* and feature #06# on page 79, orfeature 0611 and 0612 on page 89.– fax ring count: feature #07 on page 79.L The greeting message is too long. Record a shorter message(page 67).
