After you subscribe to this service, yourservice provider/telephone company’s voice mailsystem answers calls for you when you areunavailable to answer the phone or when your lineis busy. Messages are recorded by your serviceprovider/telephone company, not your telephone.Please contact your service provider/telephonecompany for details of this service.Important:L To use the voice mail service provided by yourservice provider/telephone company rather thanthe unit’s answering system, turn off theanswering system (page 30). For details, seepage 34.Voice mail message indicationThe unit lets you know that you have new voicemail messages in the following ways:– “New Voice Mail” is displayed on the displayif message indication service is available.– The message indicator on the handset flashesslowly if message alert feature is turned on(“Message alert”, page 34).To listen to your voice mail messages, you mustdial your service provider/telephone company’svoice mail access number.Note:L If the base unit or handset still indicates thereare new messages even after you have listenedto all new messages, turn it off by pressing andholding {OFF} on the handset until a beepsounds.L If your voice mail service uses voice mail tonesand a message is over 3 minutes long, the unitmay not indicate new messages.Voice mail (VM) tone detectionYour service provider/telephone company sendsspecial signals (sometimes called “voice mailtones” or “stutter tones”) to the unit to let you knowyou have new voice mail messages. If you hear aseries of dial tones followed by a continuous dialtone after you lift the corded handset or press{C}, you have new voice mail messages.
