experience these symptoms, try another brandof gasoline before considering service for thevehicle.Over 40 auto manufacturer’s world wide haveissued and endorsed consistent gasoline speci-fications (the Worldwide Fuel Charter, WWFC)which define fuel properties necessary to de-liver enhanced emissions, performance, anddurability for your vehicle. The manufacturerrecommends the use of gasolines that meet theWWFC specifications, if they are available.Reformulated GasolineMany areas of the country require the use ofcleaner burning gasoline referred to as “Reformu-lated Gasoline.” Reformulated gasoline containoxygenates and are specifically blended to re-duce vehicle emissions and improve air quality. The manufacturer supports the use of reformu-lated gasoline. Properly blended reformulatedgasoline will provide excellent performance anddurability of engine and fuel system compo-nents.Gasoline/Oxygenate BlendsSome fuel suppliers blend unleaded gasolinewith oxygenates such as Ethanol.CAUTION!DO NOT use gasoline containing Methanolor gasoline containing more than 10% Etha-nol. Use of these blends may result in start-ing and drivability problems, damage criticalfuel system components, cause emissions toexceed the applicable standard, and/orcause the “Malfunction Indicator Light” toilluminate. Pump labels should clearly com-municate if a fuel contains greater than 10%Ethanol.Problems that result from using gasoline con-taining Methanol or gasoline containing morethan 10% Ethanol are not the responsibility ofthe manufacturer and may not be covered un-der New Vehicle Limited Warranty.E-85 Usage In Non-Flex FuelVehiclesNon-Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) are compatiblewith gasoline containing 10% ethanol (E10).Gasoline with higher ethanol content may voidthe New Vehicle Limited Warranty. If a Non-FFV vehicle is inadvertently fueled withE-85 fuel, the engine will have some or all ofthese symptoms:• Operate in a lean mode.• OBD II “Malfunction Indicator Light” on.• Poor engine performance.• Poor cold start and cold drivability.• Increased risk for fuel system componentcorrosion. To fix a Non-FFV vehicle inadvertently fueledonce with E-85 perform the following:• Drain the fuel tank (see your authorizeddealer).• Change the engine oil and oil filter.• Disconnect and reconnect the battery to re-set the engine controller memory.354
