SAFETY, OPERATORS & MAINTENANCE MANUALen-387 OPERATION7.5 OPERATION OF THE MACHINERead the Safety Instructions.BEFORE OPERATING FOR THE FIRST TIME• Check and adjust tyre pressure, if necessary, see section 4.2 Specification.• Add diesel fuel to tank if neccesary.• Check engine oil and top-up, if necessary.• Check radiator coolant and top-up, ifnecessary (50% antifreeze solution).• Make sure you understand the informationcontained in the previous sections.7.6 STARTING THE ENGINEThe following procedure is for starting cold engines.1. Ensure the FWD/REV pedal is in the neutralposition, the mow switch is off, the throttlesetting is in a mid position and the parkingbrake is applied.2. Turn the ignition switch fully clockwise andhold until the engine starts (approximately 5-10 sec.)3. The glow plugs are auto timed depending onthe coolant temperature for operating thestarter motor (This should only take a fewseconds)4. When the engine starts, release the keyimmediately and it will return to the RUNposition.5. If the engine does not start, preheat the glowplugs and try again.NOTES:• If the engine fails to start after two attempts(with preheat if necessary), wait 20 secondsand try again.• The starter motor should never be runcontinuously for longer than 30 seconds or itmay fail.7.7 DRIVING• Release brake - Make sure the parking brakeis released before attempting to go forward orreverse.• Forward - Gently depress the top of the FWD/REV foot pedal to reach desired groundspeed.• Reverse - Gently depress the bottom of theFWD/REV foot pedal to reach desired groundspeed.• To stop - Gently return the FWD/REV footpedal to the neutral position.NOTES:• Use complete foot to operate both forward andreverse.• Do not move pedal suddenly–always operateslowly and smoothly. Never move pedalviolently from forward to reverse or vice versa.• Always keep foot firmly on the foot pedal–a toorelaxed foot control may result in a jerkymotion.7.8 MOWING1. Lower the cutting unit with the joystick.2. Ensure speed limiter is in mow position.(Cutting at a higher speed could be dangerousand may not give the required finish.)3. Engage the cutting mechanism by pushing onthe lower half of cutting unit switch.4. Release the parking brake and begin drivingforward.NOTE: Always set the throttle to full engine revs. formowing, even when the grass is heavy. When theengine is labouring, reduce forward speed by easingback on the FWD/REV foot pedal. A performanceindicator lamp on the control pod will illuminate red asthe cutter deck starts to labour.7.9 TO STOP THE ENGINE1. Disengage drive to the cutting units with thecutting unit switch.2. Remove foot from the FWD/REV pedal.3. Set the parking brake.
