Appendix C: Informational Notes207Java Runtime Environment (JRE)Because of a limitation in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Fedora,Linux, and Solaris clients receive an invalid response from Alt Gr on UKEnglish and US International language keyboards. Fedora, Linux, andSolaris do not pick up events for the Alt Gr key combination for Java1.4.2 or 1.5. Java 1.6 appears to improve on this, although the keyPressedand keyReleased events for Alt Gr still identify it as an “unknown keycode”.Also, a key pressed in combination with Alt Gr (such as on the UKkeyboard Alt Gr-4), which is the Euro symbol), will only generate akeyTyped followed by a keyReleased event for that value, without akeyPressed event. Java 1.6 improves upon this by filling in thekeyPressed event as well.Keyboard Language Preference (Fedora Linux Clients)There are several methods that can be used to set the keyboard languagepreference on Fedora Linux clients. The following method must be usedin order for the keys to be mapped correctly from the Virtual KVMClient and the Multi-Platform Client (MPC).¾To set the keyboard language:1. From the toolbar, select System > Preferences > Keyboard.2. Open the Layouts tab.3. Add or select the appropriate language.4. Click Close.Note: Other methods will not necessarily yield correct results.
