54Using the Swype KeyboardSwype™ is the default text input method that allowsyou to enter a word by sliding your finger or stylusfrom letter to letter, lifting your finger between words.SWYPE uses error correcting algorithms and alanguage model to predict the next word. SWYPE alsoincludes a touch predictive text system.The onscreen keyboard options are different betweenthe Samsung keypad and Swype onscreen inputmethods.Enabling and Configuring SWYPEIf you configure another text input method (Samsungkeypad) you must re-enable SWYPE before using theSWYPE keyboard.Even when SWYPE is enabled you can use the on-screen keys by either tapping (main characters) ortouching and holding (alternate characters).1. Press ➔ and then tap(Settings) ➔ Language and keyboard.2. Tap Select input method ➔ Swype.SWYPE SettingsTo configure Swype settings:1. Press ➔ and then tap ➔Language and keyboard ➔ Swype.2. Locate the Preferences section to alter thesesettings:• Language: allows you to select the current text inputlanguage. Default language is US English.• Word prediction: predicts words as you are typing.• Audio feedback: turns on sounds generated by theSwype application.• Enable tip indicator: turns on a flashing indicator forquick help.3. Locate the Swype Advanced Settings section toalter these settings:• Auto-spacing: automatically inserts a space betweenwords. When you finish a word, just lift your finger orstylus and start the next word.• Auto-capitalization: automatically capitalizes the firstletter of a sentence.• Show complete trace: sets the length of time theword trace line remains on-screen as you swipeacross the screen. Move the slider between Shorter orLonger and tap OK.• Word choice window: sets the amount of times theword choice selection window displays on screen.Move the slider between Never or Always and tap OK.• Speed vs. accuracy: sets how quickly Swyperesponds toon-screen input. Move the slider between FastResponse (speed) or Error Tolerant (accuracy) and tapOK.4.
