Always use print media that meet the guidelines for use with yourmachine.Guidelines to select the print mediaPrint media that does not meet the guidelines outlined in this user’s guidemay cause the following problems:• Poor print quality• Increased paper jams• Premature wear on the machine.Properties, such as weight, composition, grain and moisture content, areimportant factors that affect the machine’s performance and the output qual-ity. When you choose print materials, consider the following:• The type, size and weight of the print media for your machine aredescribed in print media specifications (See "Print media specifications"on page 108).• Desired outcome: The print media you choose should be appropriate foryour project.• Brightness: Some print media are whiter than others and producesharper, more vibrant images.• Surface smoothness: The smoothness of the print media affects howcrisp the printing looks on the paper.• Some print media may meet all of the guidelines in this section andstill not produce satisfactory results. This may be the result ofimproper handling, unacceptable temperature and humidity levels,or other variables over which cannot be controlled.• Before purchasing large quantities of print media, ensure that itmeets the requirements specifications in this user’s guide andmeets your output requirements.• Using print media that does not meet these specifications maycause problems, requiring repairs. Such repairs are not covered bythe warranty or service agreements.• Using inflammable print media can cause a fire.• Use designated print media (See "Print media specifications" onpage 108).The use of inflammable media or foreign materials left in the printermay lead to overheating of the unit and, in rare cases may cause afire.The amount of paper put into the tray may differ according to media typeused (See "Print media specifications" on page 108).Media sizes supported in duplex modeMODE SIZE SOURCEDuplex printingaa. 75 to 105 g/m2 (20 to 28 lbs bond) is recommended.For 90 to 120g/m2 (24 to 32 lbs bond) paper, we recommend you to selectThick for Paper Type in the Printing Preferences window (see"Opening printing preferences" on page 50).For some models, optional duplex unit needs to be installed to use the du-plex feature (see "Features by Models" on page 23).Letter, A4, Legal, Folio,OficioAll traysCHANGING THE TRAY SIZEThe tray is preset to Letter or A4 size, depending on your country.
