Settings 81TTY SettingsA TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is atelecommunications phone that allows people whoare deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech orlanguage disabilities, to communicate by telephone.Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices.Please check with the manufacturer of your TTYdevice to ensure that it is compatible with digital cellphones. Your phone and TTY device will connect via aspecial cable that plugs into your phone’s headsetjack. If this cable was not provided with your TTYdevice, contact your TTY device manufacturer topurchase the connector cable.To turn TTY Mode on or off:1. Press MENU ➔ Tools + Settings ➔ Settings ➔Others ➔ TTY Options. An informal messagedisplays.2. Press DONE.3. Select TTY Off to turn TTY mode off.– or –Touch any of the following to enable thefeature: TTY Full, TTY + Talk, or TTY + Hear.To access the state Telecommunications Relay Service(TRS) for assistance with TTY calls: Dial 711, press and press toreach an operator.Caution!: 911 Emergency Calling - it is recommended that TTYusers make emergency calls by other means,including Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS),analog cellular, and land line communications.Wireless TTY calls to 911 may be corrupted whenreceived by public safety answering points (PSAPs),rendering some communications unintelligible. Theproblem encountered appears related to softwareused by PSAPs. This matter has been brought to theattention of the FCC, and the wireless industry andthe PSAP community are currently working to resolvethis.
