3.8 TroubleshootingSymptomYou cannot poll anothermachine.Cause and Solution• The fax machine you are polling may be using a Poll Code.The fax you receive has gotblank spaces on it.• The machine sending you the fax may be faulty.• A noisy phone line can cause line errors.• Check your machine by making a copy.• The cartridge may be running out of ink.Spots on or lines missingfrom the fax you receive.• Check if your phone line is noisy.• Check if the print head is clean by making a copy.You are receiving poor-quality copies.• The fax machine sending you a fax may have a dirty scanglass.• Check for a noisy phone line.Are some of the words on thefax you receive stretched?• The machine sending you the fax had a temporarydocument jam.There are lines on copies ordocuments you send.• Check your scan glass for marks, and clean it. See page 3.17.The machine dials a number,but fails to make a connectionwith another fax machine.• The other fax machine may be turned off, out of paper, orcannot answer incoming calls. Speak with the othermachine operator and ask them to sort out the problem.You cannot store a documentin memory.• There may not be enough memory to hold the documentyou want to store. If the display shows a ‘MEMORY FULL’message, delete any documents you no longer need fromthe memory, then reload the document.Blank areas appear at thebottom of each page or onother pages, with only a smallstrip of text printed at the top.PC-FAX application, such asWinFAX LITE, does not workproperly.• You may have chosen the wrong paper settings in the useroptions set up. See page 2.53 to choose the proper papersize.• The application might not work properly when you useWindows 3.x on the computer equipped with DMApentium processor.
