51Entering Text50Entering TextRapid Character EntryRapid character entry is easy in any mode, usingthe Character Selection Map. As you entercharacters, your phone predicts the nextcharacter you might want and presents choicesin the Character Selection Map area. When adesired character appears, you may select it asdescribed in Step 3 on page 49.For example, if you want to type the word“zhong guo ( )” and entered the firstcharacter using the following keystrokes; 9, 4, 6,6, 1 and 7, you don’t need to complete thePinyin spelling to include “guo ( ).” With noextra typing, the character is displayedconveniently in the Character Selection Map foryou to choose.Using the Chinese Stroke ModeThis mode allows you to enter individual Chinesestrokes, in written order, from top to bottom andfrom left to right. Your phone provides ChineseSimplified Stroke mode and Chinese TraditionalStroke mode.The two modes work similarly, but thecharacters that appear on the display may differ.Even though there are many different strokesused to create Chinese characters, the strokesare classified into 5 basic categories; heng, shu,pie, dian and zhe. The basic strokes are printedon the keypad, on the keys 1 to 5.To enter a stroke, press the key printed with thestroke that most closely represents the exactstroke you desire.The table shows the stroke/key relationship:Typing Stokes and Characters inStroke Mode1. To type a character, press keys correspondingto its component strokes.
