Automatic Digital SubjectProgram Selection is only active in the digital-subject-program mode.Place the subject anywhere withinthe focus frame. Make sure thesubject is within the focus range ofthe lens (page 41). If the subject iscloser than 1 m (3 ft.) at the zoomlens’ wide-angle position or 3 m(10 ft.) at the telephoto position, usethe LCD monitor to frame thesubject.Press the shutter release buttonpartway down to lock the focus andexposure. Automatic Digital SubjectSelection will choose the appropriateexposure mode (see the facingpage).The white monitor focus signalappears and the viewfinder indicatorlamp turns green to confirm focuslock. If the focus signal is red or theindicator lamp blinks, the camerawas unable to locate the subject.Repeat the previous steps.Press the shutter release button allthe way down to take the picture. Therecorded image can be previewed bycontinuing to hold down the shutterrelease button after the image iscaptured. The instant-playbackfunction can also be used (page 65).The viewfinder indicator lamp turnsred and blinks, indicating data isbeing written to the card.
