55 EnglishRECORDING - ADVANCED OPERATIONSelf-timerUsed for self-portraits, the self-timer delays the release of the shutter forapproximately ten seconds after the shutter release button is pressed. Theself-timer drive mode is selected with the down key of the controller(page 53).With the camera on a tripod, compose thepicture as described in the basic recordingoperation section (page 39).Press the shutter release button partwaydown to lock the exposure and focus.Press the shutter release button all theway down to begin the countdown.Because focus and exposure aredetermined when the shutter releasebutton is pressed, do not stand in front ofthe camera when taking a self-timerimage. Always confirm the focus with thefocus signals before beginning thecountdown (page 42).During the countdown, the self-timer lamp on the front of the camera starts toblink and is accompanied by an audio signal. A countdown timer is displayedon the monitor. A few seconds before the exposure, the self-timer lamp blinksrapidly. The lamp glows steadily just before the shutter fires.To stop the countdown, press the zoom switch or menu button.The drive mode resets to single-frame advance after the exposure. The audiosignal can be turned off in section 2 of the setup menu (page 91).
