128 Power Amplifier Fault Finding TB8100 Service Manual© Tait Electronics Limited September 20068.1 Safety Precautions8.1.1 Personal SafetyCaution Beryllium OxideThe termination resistors used in the 100W poweramplifier contain some beryllium oxide. This sub-stance is perfectly harmless in its normal solid form, but can become a severe health hazard when it hasbeen reduced to dust. For this reason the termina-tion resistors should not be broken open, mutilated, filed, machined, or physically damaged in any waythat can produce dust particles. You should safelydispose of all used or obsolete components accord-ing to your local regulations.Caution Touching high-power RF components or circuitscan cause serious burns. We strongly recommendyou do not touch any RF components or tracks inthe PA while it is transmitting.Caution The TB8100 power amplifier (PA) weighs between4.8kg (10.6lb) and 5.8kg (12.8lb). Take care whenhandling the PA to avoid personal injury.8.1.2 Equipment SafetyImportant This equipment contains devices which are susceptible todamage from static charges. Refer to “ESD Precautions”on page 17 for more information on antistatic procedureswhen handling these devices.Important The PA is fully calibrated in the factory and will need to berecalibrated only if it has been repaired. You do not needto recalibrate the PA if the transmit frequency is changed.
