TASCAM DP-03SD 6714 – TroubleshootingWhen working with any new piece of equipment like the unit, it’ssometimes difficult to work out why something isn’t happeningthe way you expect. The main thing is to take your time—afterall, you’re not paying hourly studio rates! Stop and think. Askyourself questions, like the ones below, and you can usually findthe answer.Also, see the “15 – Messages” on page 68 for the meaningof messages that may pop up on the display. Consult thistable when a message appears when an operation cannot becompleted by the unit.Why can’t I hear any sound when I play back?• Are the track faders of the tracks set to high enough?• Is the MASTER fader set to high enough?• Have you connected the PHONES or LINE OUT jack to yourmonitoring system properly, and is your monitoring systemset up correctly?• Is the PHONES LEVEL knob set to high enough?Why does the sound I'm recording distorted?• Are the TRIM knobs of the INPUT A or INPUT B on the toppanel of the unit set too high? Is the input source too loud?• Isn’t the monitor system distorted as the monitor level is toohigh?Why can’t I record?• You must have at least one track armed (REC indicatorblinking) before you start recording by pressing the PLAY (Á)button while pressing the RECORD (–)button.• Are input channels assigned to tracks (see “Assigning inputs”on page 34)?Why can’t my computer “see” the unit files?• Is the unit connected to the computer via the USB terminal(see “Connecting with a computer” on page 60)?• Before making the USB connection, songs, tracks, or stereomaster tracks are backed up or exported to the FAT partition?(Files on the MTR partition cannot directly be read.)Noise occurs if I connect a passive guitar or bass directly.• Connecting another device to the unit’s line output (LINEOUT) jacks might reduce the noise.• This might be caused by interference noise from anotherdevice. If there is a power amplifier or other device that usesa large transformer, a fluorescent light or something similarnearby, you might be able to reduce the noise by changingthe distance and orientation of this unit in relation to suchequipment.• You might also be able to reduce the noise if you use thisunit’s GROUND connector to ground the unit.The unit turns off.• This product is compliant with the European ErP standbypower regulations. In order to comply with these regulations,the automatic power saving function is set to 30 minuteswhen the unit is shipped from the factory. So, by default,the unit will turn off automatically after 30 minutes elapsewithout any operation. Change the automatic power savingfunction setting if you want to disable it. (See “Automaticpower saving function” on page 56.)
