H24d Maintenance InstructionsCleaning592. Inspect the radiator cooling fins for materiallodged in this area which would restrict coolingairflow. Use pressurized air or water to clean.DO NOT use any tool, like a screwdriver orknife, to clean material out of the fins as thismay damage the cooling fins. DO NOT usecold water on a hot radiator.NOTE: Directing pressurized air or water fromthe fan side of the radiator outward is recom-mended to dislodge material packed on theoutside of the cooling fins. DO NOT use coldwater on a hot radiator.WARNINGRadiator and engine parts can become ex-tremely hot during operation. Wear glovesand avoid touching hot parts while clean-ing the radiator screen and cleaning debrisaway from the engine and cooling system.Flushing Radiator and Changing CoolantChange engine coolant every year. Drain thecoolant from the engine and radiator:1. Remove the radiator cap.2. Open the drain plug on the bottom right cornerof the radiator. Also, drain the coolant recov-ery tank.3. Remove drain plug on RH side of the engineblock (below intake manifold). Also see KohlerOperator’s Manual for location of the drain.4. If there is any indication of deposits or scal-ing inside the radiator, use a commercial scaleremover and flush the cooling system thor-oughly before adding fresh coolant.Use a pre-mixed 50/50 solution of antifreeze (eth-ylene glycol) and distilled water to refill the coolingsystem.IMPORTANT: The solution of antifreeze and watermust be thoroughly pre-mixed before putting it inthe engine. Adding pure antifreeze into the radia-tor may cause damage to the engine from over-heating.IMPORTANT: Maintain proper coolant level inthe radiator and coolant recovery tank. The cool-ant level should be maintained between FULL andLOW marks on the coolant recovery tank.Recheck the coolant level after the first time theengine has been operated after filling the coolantsystem (it would be normal to add a little coolantafter initial operation).Grass Buildup in Mower Deck HousingDANGERBefore raising or removing the mower deckfor cleaning, stop the engine, remove theignition key, and disconnect the electricalplug on the fuel shut-off solenoid.1. Remove the tilt bar from the stowed positionon the carrier frame.2. Use the tilt bar to release the two (2) decklocking arms as shown in the Unlock DeckArms for Deck Tilt-Up illustration.2802-5<15°1.2.Tilt BarUnlock Deck Arms for Deck Tilt-Up3. Fit tilt bar into the socket on front of deckhousing and secure with hitch pin.
