Maintenance Instructions H24dChecking and Servicing66Safety Switch SystemWARNINGIt is important to check and maintain thesafety switch system for safe operation ofthe machine. There are four (4) safety interlock switches on thetractor: Seat Switch, FSC Neutral-Park Switch,PTO Switch, and Parking Brake Switch.NOTE: There is a 1/2 second time delay functionon the seat switch to avoid engine power interrup-tion when driving over bumps. If any of the following conditions occur duringstarting or operating, a safety interlock switch maybe malfunctioning. Contact your Walker dealer fortroubleshooting and/or replacement.● With or without an operator in the seat, theengine starts with the Forward Speed Control(FSC) and/or the PTO engaged, or the parkingbrake disengaged.● With an operator in the seat and the parkingbrake engaged, the engine starts but diessoon after the parking brake is disengaged andthe Forward Speed Control (FSC) or PTO isengaged.● Without an operator in the seat, the enginestarts and continues to run with the ForwardSpeed Control (FSC) and/or PTO engaged, orthe parking brake disengaged.● With an operator in the seat, the ForwardSpeed Control (FSC) and PTO disengaged, the parking brake engaged, and Oil PressureWarning Horn sounding, but the starter willnot engage.Forward Speed Control Friction LockThe FSC friction lock is designed to hold theselected forward travel speed when the steeringlevers are moved and yet the friction is not tooheavy to make moving the FSC control difficult(too much friction). The procedure for checking theFSC friction lock is as follows:1. With the engine off, place the FSC in the fullFORWARD position and pull both steeringlevers back; the FSC lever should not move.If the FSC lever moves back when the steer-ing levers are pulled back, the friction needsto be increased.2. With the steering levers held back, move theFSC lever back from the FORWARD position. With a proper amount of friction adjusted, theFSC lever should move back with a slightamount of resistance (friction). If the FSClever movement is “stiff”, the friction needs tobe decreased. If the FSC friction lock needs to be adjusted, referto Adjustments for Transmission Control Step 7 -Forward Speed Control Friction Adjustment onpage 77.
