Assembly Instructions24Deck Leveling1. Position mower on a smooth, level surface. Setthe cutting height to the highest position - 4 in.(102 mm) - for easy access under the deck tomeasure blade height. Refer to ADJUSTINGCUTTING HEIGHT in Operating Instructions.NOTE: A block of wood cut 4 in. (102 mm) highis a convenient gauge to measure blade heightabove ground during the leveling process.WARNINGThe machine must be shut off during thisprocedure.2. Check the side-to-side level. Rotate eachblade sideways and measure the distancefrom blade tip to ground on each side. If mea-surements vary more than 1/8 in. (3 mm), add awasher shim under the deck support pins on thelow side to level the deck.3. Check the front-to-rear level. Rotate the bladesto point forward. Measure the distance fromblade tip to ground on the front and rear. The rearof the blade should be 1/8 to 1/4 in. (3 to 6 mm)higher than the front of the blade; shim the rear(or front) deck support pins equally to achieve atleast 1/16 in. (2 mm) difference.NOTE: The mower deck and support frame arejig welded; within normal tolerances, very little, ifany, shimming should be required to level thedeck. Tire pressure will influence the levelnessof the deck. Check the tire pressure as a possi-ble cause of the deck not being level.Deck LevelingNOTE: For the DS52 and DS62 decks withthree (3) blades, the front-to-rear level shouldbe set using the middle blade pointing for-ward, and either outside blade pointing back.4 in.
