Media transportation problems appear asone of the following symptoms:• Pre-fuser jams• Print quality defects• Physical distortion of mediaWhen these symptoms occur, perform the following checks of the media and printer and per-form the corrective actions.Table 1 Damaged MediaDefect probable cause corrective action1. Crease MarksA thin irregular line on themedia caused by stressing themedia.1. This defect can be causedby incorrect handling of themedia.1. Ensure that the media isstored correctly and is notdamaged when inserted in theprinter.2. Dog EarsThis is a corner of the leadedge of the print that has beenbent back.2. Curled media caused by afailed or damaged DetackCorotron.2a. Ensure that TAG 12 isinstalled.2b. Try using a new roll ofmedia.2c. Check for an obstructioncaused by a detack corotron.3. Frayed Side EdgeThis is damage to the sides ofthe print.3. Incorrect media side toside registration3. Ensure that the media isloaded correctly.Check the media path for anobstruction.4. WrinkleThis is damage that is proba-bly caused by the fuser sub-system. This is a severe caseof creases that runs in thedirection of media travel.Damage or obstruction in themedia pathDamp mediaIncorrect fuser pressureHeat roller is damaged orcontaminated.Clear the media path ofobstructionsRefer to BSD 7.1 and BSD 7.3to check for correct operationof the Paper heaters.Ensure that the Customer isstoring the media correctly.Check the Fabric Guide ( REP8.9) and the Pressure Plates (REP 8.5).Replace the heat roll ( REP10.2).5. CockleThe media has a rough sur-face like an orange peel. This damage could be causedby the fuser subsystem.5. Damage or obstruction inthe media pathFuser is too hot.Damp media.Pressure Plates or FabricGuide damaged / installedincorrectlyClear the media path ofobstructions.Check Fuser Temperature (ADJ 10.1)Refer to BSD 7.1 and BSD 7.3to check for correct operationof the Paper heaters.Ensure that the Customer isstoring the media correctly.Check the Fabric Guide ( REP8.9) and the Pressure Plates (REP 8.5).6. Other Damage 6. If there are other defects onthe print, go to Media HandlingProblems on, following page.Table 1 Media CheckMedia Check Corrective Action1. Check the type of media:a. Bond media less than 20 lb may performwith less reliability than Xerox 20 lb.b. Other brands of media may have differentdesign specifications than Xerox media andmay not give acceptable performance in theprinter.a. Use Xerox-qualified media.b. After all media checks, test with fresh Xeroxmedia.2. Check the storage of media:a. Media that is exposed to the environmentmay have damp areas.b. Media may have curled ends because ofincorrect storage.a. Suggest keeping the media in the packagein which the Xerox media is shipped until themedia is to be used.b. Suggest that the media should be storedcorrectly.c. Recommend keeping the printer switchedon overnight to help eliminate moisturebuildup.Table 2 Printer CheckPrinter Check Corrective Action1. Contaminated or damaged transfer/ detackCorotron.2. An incorrect electrostatic value can causejams or deletions.3. Detack Corotron shield incorrectly installed.1. Clean or replace if necessary ( PL 9.4).2. Check the following:a. Clean or replace the Corotron as required (PL 9.4).b. Perform GP 1, HVPS Checkout Procedure.3. Check for correct installation
