DocuTech 61xx Operator Guide 6-16. Problem solvingThe system is designed to help you find and solve problems asthey happen. The system detects hardware and softwareproblems, displays error or fault messages and screens, andsounds an alert tone (if it is enabled) when a problem needs tobe corrected.This section of the operator guide describes how the systeminforms you of problems. When you know there is a systemproblem, you can take measures suggested by the system tocorrect the problem. You can also use the problem and solutiontables in this section to resolve recurring problems. Included aredetailed procedures that are required to resolve some of theproblems.If you are not able to correct a problem, or you have a questionabout system operation, you should call the Customer SupportCenter. If the Customer Support Representative cannot solveyour problem over the phone, a Service Representative will bedispatched.How problems are displayedHardware problems show themselves by way of messages,document misfeeds, paper jams, poor prints, fault codes, andsystem components that do not operate correctly.Software problems usually show up as messages in the statusarea of the screen or as fault codes on the fault frames. Somesoftware problems affect hardware behavior. For example, theprinter may operate without producing any prints. This is acondition called "dead cycling."
