Maintenance514. Install the filter element and filter cup intothe filter housing.5. Tighten the ring nut so that one of thelarger ring nut tabs is aligned with the locktab.6. Run the engine and check the filter andlines for leaks.NOTE:If any water is in the fuel, the red ring in thefuel filter unit will float. If so, remove the cupand drain the water.EMU29040Inspecting idling speedWARNINGEWM00450 Do not touch or remove electrical partswhen starting or during operation. Keep hands, hair, and clothes away fromthe flywheel and other rotating partswhile the engine is running. 2-hp models: The propeller rotateswhenever the engine is running. Do notmove the throttle control lever from thestart position during warm-up. The boatcould unexpectedly start to move, whichcould result in an accident.CAUTION:ECM00490This procedure must be performed whilethe outboard motor is in the water. A flush-ing attachment or test tank can be used.A diagnostic tachometer should be used forthis procedure. Results may vary dependingon whether testing is conducted with theflushing attachment, in a test tank, or with theoutboard motor in the water.1. Start the engine and allow it to warm upfully in neutral until it is running smoothly.2-hp model: Warm the engine with thethrottle in the start position or less. If theoutboard is mounted on a boat, be surethe boat is tightly moored.NOTE:Correct idling speed inspection is only possi-ble if the engine is fully warmed up. If notwarmed up fully, the idle speed will measurehigher than normal.
