5-20 C HAPTER 5: A DVANCED M ANAGEMENTConfiguring the STP Parameters of PortsThe Port STP screen allows you to set up andmanage the STP parameters of each port on theSwitch. To access the Port STP screen:1 From the Main Menu, select SWITCH MANAGE-MENT. The Switch Management screen is displayed.2 In the Management Level field, choose Port.3 In the Port ID field, enter the ID of the port to beconfigured.4 Choose the STP button. The Port STP screen is dis-played, as shown in Figure 5-17.The screen shows the following:Port ID 1 / 2 / 3 / ... 24 / 25 / 26 (3C16900A)1 / 2 / 3 / ... 12 / 13 / 14 (3C16901A)This read-only field shows the ID of the port to beconfigured.STP State Disabled / Listening / Blocking / Learning/ Forwarding This read-only field shows the currentstate of the port:n Disabled — A port in this state does not forwardpackets, and does not participate in STP opera-tion.n Listening — A port in this state is preparing toforward packets, but has temporarily blocked toprevent a loop. During the Listening state,BPDUs are transmitted, received and processed.Figure 5-17 Port STP screenn Blocking — A port in this state does not forwardpackets to prevent more than one active pathexisting on the network. The port is included inSTP calculations, and BPDUs can be transmitted, received and processed.n Learning — A port in this state is preparing toforward packets, but has temporarily blocked toprevent a loop. During the Learning state, theSwitch learns the addresses of all error-free pack-ets. The port is included in STP calculations, andBPDUs can be transmitted, received and pro-cessed.n Forwarding — A port in this state can forwardpackets. BPDUs can also be received and pro-cessed.Designated Port This read-only field shows the IDof the Designated Bridge Port for the current port’ssegment.
