10 SOFTWARE U PGRADE AND B OOTOPTIONSThis chapter describes the procedure for upgrading the Switch softwareimage. It also covers how to save and load a primary and secondaryconfiguration file on the Switch.Upgrading theSoftwareThe image file contains the executable code that runs on theSwitch 3800. It comes preinstalled on the Switch from the factory. Asnew versions of the image are released, you should upgrade thesoftware running on your Switch.The image is upgraded by using a Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)server on the network. Downloading a new image involves thefollowing:n Load the new image onto a TFTP server on your network.n Download the new image to the Switch 3800 using the followingcommand:download image {primary | secondary}where:n ipaddress — is the IP address of the TFTP servern filename — is the filename of the new imagen primary | secondary — (optional) indicates the image to whichyou want the file downloaded. If no parameter is specified, thefile is saved to the primary image.The Switch 3800 can store up to two images; a primary and asecondary. When you download a new image, you must select intowhich image space (primary or secondary) you want the new image tobe placed.
