3Com Switch 8800 Configuration Guide Chapter 28 PIM-DM Configuration28-428.2.3 Configuring the Time Intervals for Ports to Send Hello PacketsWhen protocol independent multicast (PIM) protocol is enabled for a port, the portsends Hello packets periodically. The time intervals to send Hello packets vary with thebandwidth and type of the connected networks.Perform the following configuration in VLAN interface view.Table 28-2 Configure the time intervals for ports to send Hello packetsOperation CommandConfigure the time intervals for ports to sendHello packets pim timer hello secondsRestore the default values of the time intervals undo pim timer helloYou can configure different time intervals according to the actual networks. By default, the time interval for sending Hello packets is 30 seconds. In general, you need notmodify the parameter seconds.Note:When you configure the time interval for a port to send Hello packets, the pim neighborhold-time value automatically turns into 3.5 times the time interval value. Therefore youneed not configure a value for pim neighbor hold-time.The time interval can be configured only after the PIM protocol such as protocolindependent multicast-dense mode (PIM-DM) protocol or protocol independentmulticast-sparse mode (PIM-SM) protocol is enabled in VLAN interface view.28.2.4 Entering the PIM ViewGlobal parameters of PIM should be configured in PIM view.Perform the following configuration in system view.Table 28-3 Entering PIM viewOperation CommandEnter PIM view pimBack to system view undo pimUsing undo pim command, you can clear the configuration in PIM view, and back tosystem view.
