B M ANAGEMENT S OFTWAREU PGRADE UTILITYThe CD-ROM supplied with your Switch includes a management softwareupgrade utility that can be used to upgrade the management software ofthe Switch. The utility should only be used if a previous upgrade hasfailed, and you are unable to communicate with the Switch using theweb interface or command line interface. You can find the utility in the\agent\update\ directory on the CD-ROM.If you have any problems using the management software upgrade utility,see “Solving Management Software Upgrade Utility Problems” onpage 220.Using theUpgrade UtilityThe upgrade utility works from an MS-DOS prompt, and it upgrades oneSwitch at a time.Upgrading a Switch may take up to 30 minutes.To upgrade the management software of a Switch:1 Connect the serial (COM) port of your PC to the console port of theSwitch using a null modem cable.2 Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.3 If you are using Windows® 3.1, close it down so that you are at theMS-DOS prompt. If you are using Windows® 95/98, open an MS-DOSwindow.4 At the MS-DOS prompt:a Create a directory called upgrade in the root directory of your PC’shard drive.b Copy the contents of the \agent\update\ directory on theCD-ROM to the upgrade directory on the hard drive.
