AXIS 2460 User’s Manual Unit Connectors 67The AXIS 2460 then displays the status of the inputs, as follows:The BNC Video Inputs4 BNC composite video inputs with 75 Ohm/Hi Z termination. Autosensing for NTSC andPAL. Each video input is terminated using a coax/BNC connector. Physical connections aremade using RG59, 75 Ohm coax video cable. The recommended maximum cable length is800 feet (250 meters). The BNC Video Outputs4 BNC video outputs that can be used for connecting the AXIS 2460 to a traditional analogCCTV system or to a VCR. This output can be used independently of the Ethernet networkconnector and both can be used at the same time. The video output signals are connecteddirectly to the video input signals (loopthroughs). The Ethernet Network ConnectorThe RJ-45 network connector is used to connect the AXIS 2460 to a 10/100Mbit Ethernetnetwork running TCP/IP.About RS-485RS-485 is a standard for transmitting data over multi-drop communications line.Supporting up to 32 drivers and 32 receivers over a single twisted pair cable, the maximumcable length should not exceed 1220 meters (4000 feet). Typically used for connecting asingle master (e.g. a PC) to several addressable devices over the same cable. The masterdecides which slave speaks and the slaves only speak when spoken to, by raising RTS.The AXIS 2460 will act as either a master or a slave, depending on how communication isinitiated. RS-485 is similar to RS-232, but without a signal ground. Data detection is bymeasuring the voltage difference between the positive and negative line. This eliminatesdisturbance by interference, because interference appears identically on both linessimultanously. This means greater distances can be covered than with RS-232.Input 1 = 0Input 2 = 1Input 3 = 0Input 4 = 0
