Color Creation and Enhancement AW00097603000126 Basler aviator GigE8.3.5 A Procedure for Setting the Color EnhancementsWhen setting the color enhancements on the camera, we recommend using the procedure outlinedbelow. Since it makes changing camera parameters quick and easy, we also recommend using theBasler pylon Viewer software when you are making adjustments.1. Arrange your camera so that it is viewing a scene similar to what it will view during actual oper-ation. Make sure that the lighting for the scene is as close as possible to the actual lighting youwill be using during normal operation. (Using lighting that represents your normal operatingconditions is extremely important.)2. We recommend including a standard color chart within your camera’s field of view when youare adjusting the color enhancements. This will make it much easier to know when the colorsare properly adjusted. One widely used chart is the ColorChecker® chart (also known as theMacbeth chart).3. To start, leave the Light Source Selector parameter at the default setting.4. Begin capturing images and check the basic image appearance. Set the exposure time andgain so that you are acquiring good quality images. It is important to make sure that the imagesare not over exposed. Over exposure can have a significant negative effect on the fidelity ofthe color in the acquired images.5. Adjust the white balance. An easy way to set the white balance is to use the "once" function onthe camera’s balance white auto feature.6. Set the gamma value. You should set the value to match the gamma on the monitor you areusing to view acquired images. When gamma is set correctly, there should be a smoothtransition from the lightest to the darkest gray scale targets on your color chart.(The sRGB gamma preset will give you good results on most CRT or LCD monitors.)7. Examine the colors and see, if they are satisfactory at this point. If not, chose a different settingfor the Light Source Selector parameter. Try each mode and determine which one gives youthe best color results.8. The color fidelity should now be quite good. If you want to make additional changes, adjust thehue and saturation by using the color adjustment feature. Keep in mind that when you adjust acolor, the colors on each side of it in the color hexagon will also be affected to some degree. For example, when you adjust red, yellow and magenta will also be affected. When you are making hue and saturation adjustments, it is a good idea to start by concentratingon one line in the color chart. Once you have the colors in a line properly adjusted, you canmove on to each of the other lines in turn. When you first start working with the color enhancement tools, it is easy to badlymisadjust the color adjustment settings and not be able to bring them back intoproper adjustment. You can easily recover from this situation by using thecamera’s color adjustment reset command (see page 125).Another way to recover is to make the cameras "color factory setup" the defaultconfiguration set and then to load the default configuration set into the camera’sactive set. See the next section for more information about the camera’s colorfactory setup.
