Chapter 3: Installation3-82H23-50R/2H33-37R User’s Guide3.5 CONNECTING TO THE NETWORKThis section provides the procedures for connecting twisted pair and fiberoptic segments from the network or other devices to the 2H23-50R or2H33-37R.CONN 1 through CONN 4 (2H23-50R) or CONN 1 through CONN 3(2H33-37R) each have 12 UTP connections via a 50-pin RJ21 connector. If a port is to operate at 100 Mbps, each pair in a cable must beCategory 5 compliant with an impedance of 85 to 111 ohms.Slots 5 and 6 of the 2H23-50R support FE-100TX, FE-100FX, orFE-100F3 Fast Ethernet Interface Modules. The FE-100TX has an RJ45connector for a UTP cable connection. The FE-100FX and FE-100F3have SC connectors for fiber optic cable connections. To make twisted pair connections to CONN 1 through CONN 4(2H23-50R) or CONN 1 through CONN 3 (2H33-37R), refer toSection 3.5.1.To make a twisted pair connection to an FE-100TX in slot 5 or 6 of a2H23-50R, refer to Section 3.5.2.To make a fiber optic cable connection to an FE-100FX or FE-100F3 inslot 5 or 6 of a 2H23-50R, refer to Section 3.5.3.Refer to the associated High Speed Interface Module user’s guide to makeconnections to an optional High Speed Interface Module installed in theHSIM slot of a 2H33-37R.NOTEIf the device is being installed in a network usingSmartTrunking, there are rules concerning the cableconnections and port configurations that must be followed forSmartTrunking to operate properly. Before connecting thecables, refer to the Cabletron SystemsSmartTrunk User’sGuide for the configuration information.
