SEHI USER’S GUIDE4-1CHAPTER 4CONNECTING TO THE NETWORKThis chapter outlines the procedure for connecting the SEHI to a network.Ensure that the network meets the guidelines and requirements outlined inChapter 2, Installation Requirements/Specifications, before installingthe SEHI.4.1 CONNECTING THE SEHI TO THE NETWORKThis section details the procedure for connecting network segments to theSEHI. Refer to the following list and perform the procedure described inthe subsections that apply to connecting the SEHI to a network:• Network Ports, SEHI-22/24 4.1.1• EPIM Ports 4.1.2 - 4.1.4Prior to connecting the network cabling, check the connectors for theproper pinouts as shown in Chapter 2.4.1.1 Connecting to Network Ports, SEHI-22 and SEHI-24Attach unshielded twisted pair segments to the RJ45 Network Ports on thefront panel of the SEHI. Each twisted pair port on the SEHI incorporates aPolarity Detection and Correction feature. The Polarity Detection andCorrection feature allows the SEHI to pass data regardless of the polarityof the twisted pair segment’s receive link. Operating in this condition isnot recommended, the segment should be removed from the network andwired correctly by a technician.
