Rocking Your Vehicle to Get It OutFirst, turn your steering wheel left and right. Thatwill clear the area around your front wheels. If yourvehicle has the StabiliTrak® System, turn the systemoff by pressing and holding the Traction button sothat the STABILITY SYS DISABLED message andthe traction off light are illuminated on the instrumentpanel cluster. Then shift back and forth betweenREVERSE (R) and a forward gear, spinning the wheelsas little as possible. Release the accelerator pedalwhile you shift, and press lightly on the accelerator pedalwhen the transmission is in gear. By slowly spinningyour wheels in the forward and reverse directions, you will cause a rocking motion that may free yourvehicle. If that does not get you out after a few tries, you may need to be towed out. Or, you can useyour recovery hook if your vehicle has one. If youdo need to be towed out, see Towing Your Vehicleon page 4-50.Recovery HookYour vehicle may be equipped with a recovery hook. The recovery hook is provided in the jack storage area. The hook can be installed either at the front of thevehicle on the passenger side or at the rear ofthe vehicle on the driver side.
