Securing a Child Restraint in aRear Seat PositionIf your child restraint is equipped with the LATCHsystem, see Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children(LATCH) on page 1-39.There are no top tether anchors in the third row seatingpositions. Do not secure a child restraint in the thirdrow if a national or local law requires that a top tetherbe anchored or if the instructions that come withthe restraint say that the top tether must be anchored.If your child restraint does not have the LATCH system,you will be using the lap-shoulder belt to secure thechild restraint in this position. Be sure to follow theinstructions that came with the child restraint. Securethe child in the child restraint when and as theinstructions say.{CAUTION:In a crash, a child secured in a rear-facingchild restraint in the center rear seating positioncould be injured by the vehicle’s armrest.To reduce this risk, the armrest should firstbe secured with a special armrest retentionstrap. You can get this from your dealer.If you are using a rear-facing child restraint in the secondrow center position, install the armrest retention strap.1. Put the child restraint on the seat.2. Pick up the latch plate, and run the lap and shoulderportions of the vehicle’s safety belt through oraround the restraint. The child restraint instructionswill show you how.1-45
