The tachometer display on the instrument panel clusterwill show which gear the vehicle is in and a numberindicating the requested gear range when movingthe shift lever forward or rearward. See Speedometerand Odometer on page 3-31 for more information on theodometer. While using the DSC feature, the vehicle will havefirmer shifting and increased performance. You can usethis for sport driving or when climbing or descendinghills, to stay in gear longer, or to down shift formore power or engine braking. The transmission will only allow you to shift into gearsappropriate for the vehicle speed and engineRevolutions Per Minute (RPM). The transmission willnot automatically shift to the next lower gear if theengine RPM is too high.If shifting is prevented for any reason, the currentlyselected gear will flash multiple times, indicating thatthe transmission has not shifted gears. While in the DSC mode, the transmission willautomatically downshift when the vehicle comes to astop and while quickly applying the accelerator toincrease speed. This will allow for more power duringtake-off.When accelerating your vehicle from a stop in snowyand icy conditions, you may want to shift into secondgear. A higher gear ratio allows you to gain more tractionon slippery surfaces.2-40
