Focus86Face DetectionWhen the face detection function is activated, the camera will detect people’s faces. When there are a number ofpeople in the picture, one person will be determined to be the main subject but you have the option to select adifferent person as the main subject. The camera will keep tracking the main subject even when it moves.You can use face detection with one of the autofocus functions to let the camera focus on the main subjectautomatically (Face AF). You can also combine face detection with the focus guide (A 81) to help you focus onthe main subject manually.1 Select > [v Camera Setup] > [Face Detection] > [On].2 Select > [v Camera Setup] > [Face AF] > [Face Priority] or [Face Only].• (face priority) or (face-only AF) will appear on the left of the screen.3 Point the camera at the subject.• During continuous AF, the camera will keep focusing on the main subject’s face. During one-shot AF, thecamera will focus on the main subject’s face while you hold the ONE-SHOT AF button pressed down.• All detected faces will have a face detection frame. The main subject will be indicated with a face detectionframe with small arrows (white when autofocus is active, gray or yellow* during manual focus).Push the joystick left/right or turn the SELECT dial to select a different person as the main subject.• If you use face detection together with the tracking function (A 87), the camera will be able to track theselected main subject more reliably. When you touch a subject on the LCD screen, tracking will be activatedand the face detection frame will change to a double frame £ (tracking frame). This is better if you want totrack a subject when it is difficult to keep seeing their face.* [AF-Boosted MF] within manual adjustment range.Options[Face Priority]: The camera focuses according to the AF mode currently selected.[Face Only]: When a face is detected, the camera focuses according to the AF mode currently selected.When there is no face detected, the camera locks the focus.Face AF operation by AF modeNOTESNOTES• In certain cases, faces may not be detected correctly.
